Meet Dr. Jesse Carmen

Orthodontics was a natural fit for Dr. Jesse. Growing up with an orthodontist for a father, he had an early look at a profession that combined many of the things he valued most: quality healthcare, problem-solving, lasting relationships, and the opportunity to make a positive difference in people’s lives. He was especially drawn to the unique combination of science and artistry involved in orthodontics, from understanding biomechanics and oral health to considering facial esthetics and visualizing how each part of a smile fits together. That early exposure also let him learn directly from his father, Dr. Ron Carmen, whose innovative approach to orthodontics helped shape the way Dr. Jesse thinks about treatment today: look beyond the obvious solution, carefully evaluate what’s best, and seek alternatives to extractions or surgery whenever possible.

That commitment shows up in the numbers. While roughly 26% of orthodontic patients nationally require extractions, less than 1% of Dr. Jesse’s patients do — the result of leaning on expansion, distalization, and temporary anchorage devices (TADs) instead of taking the more common path. It’s also why Dr. Jesse no longer takes on surgical cases: between appliance therapy and expansion (including for adult patients well past the age most orthodontists consider expansion possible), he and his team consistently find non-surgical paths for cases that would typically be referred out.

Since completing his residency and joining the practice in 2012, Dr. Jesse has built on the foundation his father established when he opened Carmen Orthodontics in 1978. What began as a single office has grown to four locations across Central Ohio, and Dr. Jesse continues to bring the same hands-on, evaluate-and-improve mindset to every case. For him, expertise isn’t something to coast on; it’s something to keep working at, approaching every case with a deeply personal sense of responsibility to provide care worthy of the Carmen name.
