At Carmen Orthodontics, every case starts with precision. Traditional orthodontics has long relied on stock braces brackets built for the “average” tooth. We build treatment around the tooth actually in front of us, using digital 3D scanning and CAD/CAM planning to design brackets around each patient’s specific anatomy from day one. This precision is part of why our custom braces cases average around 18 months, well shorter than the 27-month national average for traditional braces, and why patients see fewer emergency visits and mid-course corrections during their treatment.

The same standard of customized, personalized care applies across every one of our doctors and offices. Carmen Orthodontics is a family-founded, privately-owned practice serving Central Ohio since 1978, led today by second-generation orthodontist Dr. Jesse Carmen alongside Dr. Mark Finkelstein (Dr. Fink) across four community-based locations. The name on the door hasn’t changed in over 45 years, and neither has the quality of work behind it.

Carmen Orthodontics was founded in Columbus in 1978 by Dr. Ron Carmen, a Columbus native who built his practice on conservative, non-extraction treatment and a genuine commitment to the community he grew up in. He later placed the Canal Winchester and Pickerington offices within walking distance of local schools, so families wouldn’t have to travel far for care — a decision that still shapes how we think about access today. His approach to orthodontic care earned him recognition as a Columbus Monthly Top Dentist for years running.

Today, the practice is led by his son, Dr. Jesse Carmen, who grew up around the office, returned to carry the family name forward, and has earned that same Top Dentist recognition himself. What began as a single Columbus location has grown into four Central Ohio offices: Columbus, Canal Winchester, Pickerington, and Grove City.

Dr. Jesse and Dr. Fink arrived at the same philosophy from different directions. Dr. Jesse learned it from his father: don’t chase success, just do a good job, and success will follow. This shows up as precise, technology-driven care that never rushes the human part of the visit. Dr. Fink describes his care as designing every smile to still look great 30 years from now with treatment built around the person who has the teeth, not just the teeth themselves. Different words, same standard: nothing formulaic, nothing rushed, and nothing that isn’t built to last.

Dr. Jesse Carmen, DDS

A second-generation orthodontist and Top 1% Blue Diamond Invisalign Provider, Dr. Jesse leads all four Carmen Orthodontics offices and continues the practice his father founded in 1978.

Dr. Mark Finkelstein, DDS, MS

Known to patients as “Dr. Fink,” he brings detail-driven, custom-tailored treatment planning to cases across all four Carmen Orthodontics locations.

Our Invisalign cases average around 16 months and just 8 total appointments, far fewer than most patients expect. Our custom braces, built with LightForce and KLOwen Stride systems and placed through indirect bonding, treat in roughly 18 months on average, well ahead of the national norm for traditional braces.

Both treatment paths run on Dental Monitoring, which lets our doctors track progress remotely between visits instead of requiring a chair every few weeks. It’s a big part of how patients get an excellent result without feeling like they live in our office, and why both Invisalign and custom braces cases here often need close to half the visits of a typical practice. Our technology extends further still, including TMJ/TMD evaluation, iTero 3D scanning, and a secure online portal for managing appointments and payments from anywhere.
