Philosophy of Care
For Dr. Jesse Carmen, great orthodontic care starts with a simple question: “What would I want if I were the patient?” Rather than taking a one-size-fits-all approach, he takes the time to understand each patient’s needs and goals, then finds a personalized path to a healthy, beautiful smile that’s as precise and efficient as possible. That philosophy also means he’s willing to take the more challenging path of care when it offers a better option — working to preserve teeth and avoid surgery or extractions whenever appropriate — while prioritizing clear communication so patients understand their options and feel confident in their decisions.
Just as importantly, Dr. Jesse believes treatment should be a positive experience. He and the Carmen Orthodontics team have created an approachable, down-to-earth environment where patients feel comfortable, have fun, and know they’re being cared for as individuals. As he learned from his father: do a good job, and success will follow. That lesson continues to shape the way he approaches every patient and every smile.

Expertise Built on Experience and a Drive to Improve
Orthodontics was a natural fit for Dr. Jesse. Growing up with an orthodontist for a father, he had an early look at a profession that combined many of the things he valued most: quality healthcare, problem-solving, lasting relationships, and the opportunity to make a positive difference in people’s lives. He was especially drawn to the unique combination of science and artistry involved in orthodontics, from understanding biomechanics and oral health to considering facial esthetics and visualizing how each part of a smile fits together. That early exposure also let him learn directly from his father, Dr. Ron Carmen, whose innovative approach to orthodontics helped shape the way Dr. Jesse thinks about treatment today: look beyond the obvious solution, carefully evaluate what’s best, and seek alternatives to extractions or surgery whenever possible.
That commitment shows up in the numbers. While roughly 26% of orthodontic patients nationally require extractions, less than 1% of Dr. Jesse’s patients do — the result of leaning on expansion, distalization, and temporary anchorage devices (TADs) instead of taking the more common path. It’s also why Dr. Jesse no longer takes on surgical cases: between appliance therapy and expansion (including for adult patients well past the age most orthodontists consider expansion possible), he and his team consistently find non-surgical paths for cases that would typically be referred out.
Since completing his residency and joining the practice in 2012, Dr. Jesse has built on the foundation his father established when he opened Carmen Orthodontics in 1978. What began as a single office has grown to four locations across Central Ohio, and Dr. Jesse continues to bring the same hands-on, evaluate-and-improve mindset to every case. For him, expertise isn’t something to coast on; it’s something to keep working at, approaching every case with a deeply personal sense of responsibility to provide care worthy of the Carmen name.

Technology and Orthodontics: How Dr. Jesse Is Advancing Modern Care
For Dr. Jesse, investing in orthodontic technology isn’t just about having flashy equipment— it’s about constantly finding better ways to treat patients. He built Carmen Orthodontics around digital tools and customized treatment systems that allow him to plan with greater precision, monitor progress closely, and make care more convenient for busy families. Digital treatment planning begins with detailed iTero scans, while custom systems such as LightForce clear braces, KLOwen metal braces, and Invisalign® allow treatment to be tailored to each patient’s smile. Dr. Jesse also uses indirect bonding, multiple in-office 3D printers, and an in-office AI laser cutter to fabricate custom retainers in-house rather than sending them out, making different parts of the treatment process more precise and efficient.
One of the biggest changes to his practice over the years has been the increased use of Dental Monitoring, a remote system that lets Dr. Jesse and his team regularly evaluate a patient’s progress without requiring an office visit every few weeks. For many patients, that means going seven to eight months between in-person appointments while staying connected to the Carmen Orthodontics team the entire time.
That efficiency shows up directly in treatment outcomes. Dr. Jesse’s Invisalign cases average about 16 months and roughly 8 total appointments (consult, start, and debond included) compared to a national average closer to 19 visits. His braces cases average a similar 16 months and about 11 total visits. The result is an approach to orthodontics designed around the patient rather than the appointment calendar — excellent results in the shortest practical timeframe, giving patients and families more of their time back.

For all the energy Dr. Jesse puts into orthodontics, the most important part of his life happens outside the office. He loves spending time with his family and kids, whether they’re swimming together or he’s attempting to keep the peace between the Carmen siblings. When he can carve out some time for himself, you’ll often find him working out, going for a run, or playing tennis.
Dr. Jesse also enjoys concerts, movies, and catching up with friends over a beer. That laid-back side of his personality is the same one patients get to meet in the office. There’s no super formal, white-coat doctor at Carmen Orthodontics, just the same down-to-earth person you might run into around town, who just happens to be passionate about moving teeth.
