What is Interceptive Orthodontic Treatment?
Interceptive orthodontics, also called phase one orthodontic treatment, early orthodontic treatment, or interceptive treatment, typically begins when a child still has most of their baby teeth. Phase 1 orthodontics aims to address developing orthodontic issues in children aged 7-10, intercepting any problems before they worsen or become more challenging to treat. The treatment can prevent minor alignment issues from turning into more severe complications and can tackle major issues such as crossbites, underbites, open bites, or underlying skeletal problems. Orthodontics for kids reduces the risk of more complex treatments or surgery later on and can even decrease the need for permanent tooth extraction.
